Dear Professor Fou-Lai Lin,
Let me introduce myself. I am Alexander Karp, Professor at Teachers
College, Columbia University and Managing editor of International
Journal for the History of Mathematics Education
http://www.comap.com/historyjournal/index.html).
In the Journal, we have an important feature -- interviews with VIPs
in Mathematics Education and so far had interviews with Ubiratan
D'Ambrosio (Brazil), Heinrich Bauersfeld (Germany), Michele Artigue
(France), Alexey Werner (Russia), Celia Hoyles, GeoffreyHowson
(UK), Jeremy Kilpatrick, Henry Pollak, Alan Schoenfeld, and Zalman
Usiskin (USA), and
we also published an interview with Izaak Wirszup which was
conducted in 1990s and never before published.
I would like to ask you to give an interview to our journal.
The interview covers (typically) the life story and thoughts
about the field. Technically, we need about 60-90 minutes for the
interview (it can be conducted by telephone, unless you aregoing
to be in New
York in the nearest future). Then it will be transcribed and after
some basic editing I will send you the text for your editing,
correcting, adding, etc.
Please see attached an interview with Geoffrey to see how
it looks in the Journal. I believe your interview will bevery
important for our Journal and would really appreciate your positive
response!
Sincerely,
Alexander Karp
